SEBASTOPOL, CALIFORNIA -- Community Action Publications (CAP) announced today the release of their much-anticipated new Fifth Edition of The Organic Guide to Sonoma, Napa, and Mendocino Counties. This innovative and comprehensive local guidebook has been significantly expanded and updated throughout, offering over double the listings of the previous edition, and 192 pages full of organic places, people, stories, and information.

The Organic Guide is intentionally designed to make it incredibly easy for locals and visitors to explore, enjoy, and support local organic food, wine, and much more in "Wine Country" north of San Francisco. Subtitled "Your Organic Adventure Guide & Empowerment Manual," this beautiful and well-designed book also includes essential and empowering information about organics, toxics, food, farms, and related topics.

In this new edition, readers will find:

* A BEAUTIFUL FOUR-COLOR COVER, inviting them to organic adventures.

* MANY MORE NEW PLACES TO EXPLORE. This new edition has over double the listings of the previous one, including triple the farms, over double the restaurants, and significantly more wineries, annual events, local products, lodging and retreats, and many other useful and unexpected categories. Readers can go to a restaurant a week and not visit them all in a year! Most places listed here do not promote their organic connection and were discovered by CAP through months of extensive primary research. Even long-time locals will discover many new places to explore!

* EXPANDED INFORMATION ABOUT EACH PLACE, WHILE REMAINING SUCCINCT, to help readers easily find places that meet their needs and criteria.

- THE LISTINGS FOR EACH PLACE include key contact information, including hours and directions, plus expanded hand-written descriptions that summarize the key eco-offerings and style of each place.

- RESTAURANT LISTINGS now also include at-a-glance icons and describe: how much organic produce each place offers, if the meats are organic or natural, whether the table water is filtered, and other key details.

- WINERY LISTINGS also include the varietals offered at each winery; and the varietal cross-reference makes it easy to find the varieties the reader seeks.

* EXCITING AND USEFUL NEW ARTICLES. The Guide offers even more essential and empowering information, including articles on: the national organic standards; local GMO-Free zones; buying organic and natural meat and poultry; including organic in weddings, restaurants, and daily life; creating better pest control solutions; and much more.

* UPDATED INFORMATION AND HELPFUL DETAILS THROUGHOUT. The Guide is full of valuable information, footnoted and organized to make it easy for readers to find what they seek. The Table of Contents has been expanded, and readers can look up places either by category or with the handy overview map. Extensive cross-referencing and a Listings Index makes it even easier for readers to find the local products and places that they seek. And the thorough Resources section makes it easy to continue the exploration, with CAP's favorite places for more information, support, and action on the topics of the book.

As in previous editions, all the Guide's helpful information is presented in the attractive and well-organized format that so many Guide readers appreciate, with short sections, graphics, and clear headers that make it easy to explore and enjoy.

Previous editions of The Organic Guide have garnered praise from a wide variety of publications, including Bon Appetit, Delicious Living, Earth Island Journal, Natural Foods Merchandizer, The North Bay Bohemian, Marin County's Pacific Sun, The San Francisco Chronicle, and the San Francisco TV show "Bay Area Backroads." The Guide is also used by local schools, as part of their Sustainable Agriculture curriculum.

"In this area, we're blessed to have access to a delightful variety of fresh, local, organic food and more &emdash; produced on farms choosing not to use toxic pesticides," says Guide author Patricia Dines, "but only if people know where to look. We love making it easy for folks to support local healthier food and agriculture &emdash; and a healthier world for all."

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

About Community Action Publications

Community Action Publications is a community-supported, primarily-volunteer group formed in 1997 to help create a healthier, less-toxic world by providing useful information about toxics and alternatives like organics. CAP produces this edition of The Organic Guide, as well as one for San Francisco, in order to draw attention and support to this area's luscious and diverse organic food and agriculture, thus supporting conversion to less-toxic farming.

About The Organic Guide
The Organic Guide has been produced since 1998 by CAP, a small community group in northern California, as part of their mission to provide empowering information that nurtures a healthier, less-toxic world. Sonoma, Napa, and Mendocino Counties are north of San Francisco, in northern California's "Wine Country."

The Guide features key information about local places offering organic food, wine, and related products and services, including farms, farmers' markets, natural food stores, restaurants, wineries, nurseries, lodging and retreats, community gardens, local products, pest control services, and many other useful and unexpected categories. Each section is comprehensive, with a depth of listings unmatched by any other resource. Listings are organized into an attractive and easy-to-use format, with an overview map and the key details given for each place (including hours, directions, and description). Codes make it easy to find places that offer retail and mail order products. As a result of this thoughtful design, readers can easily find new places and resources, and go straight to the fun part, while knowing that they're supporting local organics and a healthier bioregion for all.

But The Organic Guide is much more than a local organic guidebook. Subtitled "Your Organic Adventure Guide & Empowerment Manual," this beautiful resource also includes well-organized, inspiring, and empowering information about organics and related issues, including the meaning of organic, the benefits of buying local, how to buy from local farms, stories about local community gardens, the issues with toxics and GMOs, the hidden costs of industrial long-distance agriculture, and much more. Through this, readers have an opportunity to expand their understanding of the value and importance of supporting local organics, and to share that understanding with their family, friends, and other people in their lives.

At 192 pages, this new Fifth Edition offers 72 more pages than the previous edition, chock-full of local places, people, stories, and information.

About Organics
For more than a decade, organic food sales have grown at least 20% a year, making it one of the fastest growing areas in the food market. In 2003, 36% of Americans used organic products at least monthly, says the Hartman Group, an increase from 22% in 2000. Consumers have increasingly turned to organics because of concerns about toxic pesticides and fertilizers, mad cow disease, and GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms). Consumers, chefs, and many others see organics as a wonderful way to enjoy delicious, healthy, and nutritious food that's grown not with toxics and GMOs, but instead through nourishing the soil and ecosystems, thus supporting better health for everyone and for this precious planet. CAP's Organic Guide Project makes it easy for this growing group of consumers to discover and enjoy this area's organic food and wine delights.
